Mission
Provide quality assistance and support to all military and
civilian personnel within the USAG Stuttgart Community and to
conduct inspections and investigations as directed by the Garrison
Commander and/or the USAREUR Inspector General.
Vision
Serve as a confidential and impartial means for people to
raise concerns, issues or problems.
Provide reliable, credible, relevant and timely assistance,
information, guidance and advice –through thorough research and/or
inquiry.
To be the “place to go to” when you want to know “what right
looks like”.
Anyone can come see
the IG:
Soldiers, Family Members, Civilians and Local Nationals have the
right to make or prepare communications protected by law without
fear of unfavorable personnel action being taken or threatened to
be taken, or fear of favorable personnel action being withheld or
threatened to be withheld (Whistle Blower Protection!).
Requests for assistance can be made in
person, over the telephone, by e-mail and via fax. Walk-ins are
welcomed, but appointments are encouraged
Confidentiality:
Similar to that of a ‘doctor-patient’ relationship.
IGs do their best to protect your confidentiality, but that
CANNOT be guaranteed.
IG
functions and principles
1. Assistance:
Informal fact-finding in response to request for help with
a problem, or just provide information or point people where to go
for their specific issue.
2. Investigations:
Formal fact-finding in
response to allegations of violations of laws, regulations or
policy, or other illegal activities. Usually these will often
start out as an Investigative Inquiry first, but an actual
investigation can be conducted only at the written direction of
the Commander.
3. Inspections:
Also only conducted at the written direction of the
commander; and are focused
on systemic issues and done to determine the root cause for any
non-compliance. Units either can’t comply, won’t comply, or
they just don’t know the regulation or policy.
4. Teaching and Training:
Army systems, processes and procedures; standards of
behavior and appearance, or any issue needed, whenever and
wherever. (SGT’s Time, OPD, NCOPD).
We also teach and train while conducting the first three
functions.
