Colonel Carl D. Bird III

Colonel Carl Bird graduated from LongwoodCol. Carl D. Bird III, U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart Commander College in 1985 as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Reserve Officer Training Corps.

Colonel Bird completed the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course, Strategic Mobility and Planning Course and the Parachute Rigger Course, and was then assigned to the 1st Corps Support Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina as the Repair Parts Platoon Leader, 530th Supply and Service Battalion, followed by an assignment as the Aide-de-Camp for the Commander, 1st COSCOM and then assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division as the Main Supply Platoon Leader, Aerial Delivery Platoon Leader and Assistant Division Parachute Officer with the 407th Supply and Transportation Battalion.

After graduating from the Quartermaster Officers Advanced Course, Colonel Bird was assigned to the 7th Infantry Division (Light), Fort Ord, California, as a company commander. Following his command he served for two years as an exchange officer with the Australian Army's Defense National Supply and Distribution Center in Moorebank New South Whales, Australia.

In 1995, Colonel Bird attended the Logistics Executive Development Course, Florida Institute of Technology, where he earned a Masters Degree in Logistics Management.

Colonel Bird attended both the Command and General Staff College and the School of Advanced Military Studies earning a Masters of Military Arts and Sciences degree, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Colonel Bird was then assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division as the Logistics Planner during the division's rotation to Bosnia; subsequently, he became the 215th Forward Support Battalion Executive Officer, followed by the 27th Main Support Battalion Support Operations Officer.

Colonel Bird returned to Fort Leavenworth as an Observer Controller with the Battle Command Training Program in June 2001 where he was assigned as the Combat Service Support Battlefield Operating System Chief, and deployed with Operations Group Bravo in support of V Corps during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In May of 2003 Colonel Bird returned to Fort Hood as the commander of the 27th Main Support Battalion where he deployed the battalion to Operation Iraqi Freedom II.

After completion of battalion command, he was assigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-4 where he deployed the 1st Cavalry Division to Operation Iraqi Freedom 2006-08. Following this tour at Fort Hood, Colonel Bird attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces where he earned a Masters Degree in Strategic Resource Management.

His last assignment prior to assuming command of the USAG Stuttgart was Director of Customer Operations for Land Forces, DLA Land and Maritime, Columbus Ohio.

Colonel Bird's awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, 3rd Award; Meritorious Service Medal, 6th Award; Army Commendation Medal, 2nd Award; Army Achievement Medal, 5th Award; National Defense Service Medal, 2nd Award; Air Assault Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Combat Action Badge and the Parachute Rigger Badge.
